Vivaldi - at full blast
Concerto Copenhagen welcomes you to Vivaldi's Venice - at full blast!
Concerto Copenhagen opens the doors to the Conservatory's Concert Hall on Sunday, May 11 at 16:00, where the orchestra together with several international soloists and the Swiss star soprano Marie Lys transforms the Conservatory's Concert Hall into an evening in Venice.
You can look forward to a concert of festive trumpet and horn concerts, virtuoso arias and iconic Baroque music.
The music of Venice - magnificent and seductive
The music of Venice is like the city itself: magnificent, dazzling, breathtakingly beautiful and seductive. With this concert, Concerto Copenhagen pays tribute to Venice and one of its most famous sons - composer Antonio Vivaldi.
Vivaldi is known worldwide, especially for his work "The Four Seasons", one of the most beloved and recognizable works of classical music. He was born and lived most of his life in Venice, where he created an overwhelming amount of music in many genres, not least opera.
During the Baroque period, Venice was one of Europe's absolute centers of trade, art and music. The city attracted composers and musicians from near and far. The Venetian style set a tone that reached far beyond the city's canals.
World-class virtuosity
Vivaldi's operas are known as some of the most technically challenging music, demanding the very best from both musicians and singers. In this concert, Concerto Copenhagen presents a selection of these virtuoso arias, performed by Swiss star soprano Marie Lys.
The orchestra's own soloists are also ready to impress with festive trumpet and horn concerts that showcase the brilliance and vitality of the Baroque.
Venice - at fullblast
The concert program does not only include music by Vivaldi. The audience can also look forward to works by other Venetian composers such as Albinoni, Scarlatti and Porpora - perhaps unfamiliar names to some, but the Italian atmosphere of Venice will certainly be recognizable. The evening will also feature music by the great masters of the Baroque, the German composers Handel and Heinichen, both of whom were inspired by their visits to Venice. The result is a concert that combines the best of the Venetian musical tradition with the European sound of the Baroque.
A glittering evening ahead
Look forward to an evening filled with some of the most sweepingly brilliant, virtuosic and charming music of the Baroque.
